Buying Pennsylvania Bluestone in Nashville.

Nashville sits closer to the bluestone quarries than our Dallas yard does. What that means for freight, and the color and thickness choices that suit humid shade and a real Tennessee winter.

The Block Stone Supply 13 July 2026 6 min

Nashville is a natural home for Pennsylvania Bluestone. The city's mix of traditional brick, mature shade, and four honest seasons is exactly the setting the stone was made for — and geographically, Middle Tennessee sits closer to the Northeastern quarries than our own yard in Dallas. Here's how we'd approach a Nashville project, from freight to finish.

Freight: closer than you'd think.

Because the bluestone quarries are in the Northeast, Nashville's freight math is often friendlier than a buyer expects — the stone doesn't have to detour through Texas to reach you. We quote freight separately, based on mileage and how many trucks the order needs, so the way to keep it efficient is the same everywhere: order in full pallets. Flagstone ships on pallets averaging around 250 square feet, and consolidating into complete pallets is what keeps the per-foot landed cost down. Plan on two to four weeks, delivered.

Color for humid shade.

Nashville's tree canopy is one of its pleasures, and it shapes the color choice. In dappled, humid shade, Full Color bluestone — the warm mix of blues, greens, tans, and rusts — comes alive; the variation reads rich rather than busy under a leaf-broken light. For a crisp, modern terrace in the open, Blue Select's uniform blue-grey stays calm. Our color guide lays out the trade-off in full.

The Nashville canopy flatters Full Color — variation reads as depth under dappled light.

Thickness for a Tennessee winter.

Middle Tennessee freezes, so freeze–thaw is a real consideration — though bluestone's density makes it a manageable one. Over a compacted aggregate or sand-set base, we steer Nashville patios to the 2″ thickness for the mass it lends against seasonal heave. Over a bonded concrete slab, 1″ is fine. Either way, drainage does half the work; the fuller reasoning is in our freeze–thaw guide.

DecisionNashville lean
ColorFull Color for shade; Blue Select for open, modern
FinishNatural cleft for gardens; thermal where it ices
Thickness2″ over aggregate; 1″ over slab
Lead time2–4 weeks, delivered

Nashville's shade, winters, and traditional brick all point the same way: bluestone, and often Full Color.

Tell us the project — patio, walk, or pool surround — your base, and your delivery ZIP, and we'll spec it and quote freight to Middle Tennessee.
