Pennsylvania Bluestone
The stone as the quarry splits it. The classic choice for patios and walkways.
Natural cleft is the face you get when bluestone is split along one of its natural layers. It isn’t sawn or flamed on top, so it keeps the quarry’s own surface: gentle ripples, subtle ridges and more color movement than thermal. The edges are sawn, so dimensional pieces still fit together in a clean pattern.
It is the most economical bluestone finish because there is no extra processing step, and its texture grips well wet or dry. Because the face is split rather than cut, thickness varies a little from piece to piece; installers adjust the bed under each stone as they set it, which is part of why cleft looks hand-laid.
