Pennsylvania Bluestone

Thermal Bluestone Pavers

Flamed flat and even. Made for pool decks, terraces and modern patios.

"A flat, consistent, reliably grippy surface — which is why pool decks so often land on it."

Thermal bluestone is Pennsylvania Bluestone whose surface has been treated with intense heat, which pops the top layer into a consistent, fine-grained texture. It is flatter underfoot and more even in tone than natural cleft, and it still holds excellent slip resistance.

That consistency makes thermal the favorite around pools, in wet areas and in modern designs: a flat, predictable surface for wet bare feet, with none of the high spots a split face can have. We stock thermal pavers in Blue Select and Full Color and ship them crated to job sites nationwide.

Why thermal

Flat, even and sure-footed.

Wet grip

The flamed texture holds traction when the deck is wet, the reason thermal is the default finish around water.

Clean geometry

Every piece is a flat, consistent plane, so diagonals, grids and large formats read crisply.

Dense stone

Low-absorption Pennsylvania sandstone that handles freeze-thaw winters and summer heat alike.

Frequently asked

Thermal bluestone.

Thermal (or flamed) bluestone is Pennsylvania Bluestone whose surface is treated with intense heat. The top layer pops into a fine, even texture that is flatter and more uniform than natural cleft while keeping excellent slip resistance. It carries a per-foot premium for the extra processing.
Yes. It is a flat, grippy surface for wet bare feet, which is why pool decks so often land on it. Bluestone is darker than pale limestone, so in full desert sun it runs warmer underfoot; it is at its best on shaded or covered surrounds and in moderate climates. Tell us your climate and we will recommend a finish.
Ballpark pricing is about $13–17 per square foot for 1″ thermal, before freight. Thicker stone runs higher. Freight is quoted by ZIP code, and exact pricing comes on your quote, usually within 1–2 business days.
Thickness follows the base: 1″ set in mortar on a concrete slab, 1½″ dry-laid on a compacted base, and 2″ for driveways, grass-joint layouts or aggregate bases in freeze zones.
Yes. We crate it and ship it by freight to job sites nationwide. We convert your footprint to tonnage and price the truck door to door, so larger orders carry freight best.
